Lewis Baltz

Sites of Technology

Two years after the death of Lewis Baltz, one of the founding fathers of conceptual photography and an essential figure in the New Topographics movement, the MAC’s will pay tribute to him by presenting Sites of Technology (1989-91), the American artist’s emblematic series which condemned the idiosyncrasies of a techno-scientific society where invisibility reigns supreme. Exhibited at the MAC’s, all of the twenty photographs also resonate like a distant echo with the Grand-Hornu site’s technological past as a state-of-theart colliery. Lewis Baltz’s works have been widely presented in solo and joint exhibitions throughout the world and are now found in the most prestigious museum collections.
