Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker & Steven Fillet

This booklet documents Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Steven Fillet’s Belle-Île project through photographs and a text by Denis Gielen. The artists chose to work together outdoors on Belle-Île-en-Mer, off the coast of Brittany. Placed at the edge of a cliff, an immense white canvas served as their shared surface: a dance floor for De Keersmaeker and a drawing surface for Fillet.

Back in the studio, several musical notations from Beethoven’s final piano sonata (the Arietta from Piano Sonata No. 32, Op. 111) were added to the work. With these additions, the canvas foreshadows Amnesia, the solo Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker created in collaboration with Alain Franco to the music – a way for the dancer to recall her encounter with Belle-Île.
